Stop Killing Games / CFC

Greetings fellow fighters, Fenix (admin) here. Recently, I posted a video on my Youtube channel about the Stop Killing Games movement. It goes over the SKG initiative in depth, but it also provides the first real update on the game I’ve been developing called CFC.

In summary, SKG is coming to close this month and still desperately needs your help. If you live in the EU / UK and believe in video game preservation, please take a look at https://www.stopkillinggames.com and get involved.

CFC on the other hand will be seeing its first (Alpha) release by the end of this month, so there’s a lot of news about that.

Please check out the video for more concrete details on both, the link is here; https://youtu.be/Gl3HshCGaF0

Fight ‘N’ Jokes gets an adventure game spin-off

Another thing that I’m pretty sure nobody had on their bingo cards for this year: 1997 comedy MS-DOS fighter Fight ‘N’ Jokes, which did get a small revival of sorts in the last few years to the tune of upgraded ports to consoles, is getting an adventure spin-off based on the game called Fight ‘N’ Jokes: Storylines. The game is episodic, and the first chapter will focus on Miopinja.

For those unfamiliar, Fight ‘N’ Jokes was released by Nasty Brothers on DOS 27 years ago and was an early attempt at skewing other fighting games and popular culture in general. It is often compared to as “ClayFighter without the clay” but that feels kind of reductive, given that it stands on its own and there just wasn’t too much like these titles already on the market; most comedy fighters were self-referential or just had humor elements as opposed to parodying specific tropes. Furthermore, Fight ‘N’ Jokes poked more fun at the genre than ClayFighter did.

The 2021 revival and this subsequent spinoff come after a series of failed attempts by Mental Drink to revitalize the brand as ToonFighterZ back in the early-mid aughts, with DSiWare and iPhone versions that were announced and had evaporated.

ExA-Arcadia: Why are so many worried about this arcade platform? (MrMKL)

Mike “MrMKL” Levesque has released another video I would consider essential viewing for fighting game fans, as he discusses what ExA-Arcadia is, what is potentially exciting about it, and why more are worried about it than excited.

Several new games and updates were announced over the weekend for the platform at EVO Japan, but based on their exclusivity clauses, it’s highly likely most of the planet will never even play these games…

Schwarzerblitz endless beta update 1.6: new character(s), new mechanics, more

Schwarzerblitz is a free game that is one of this author’s all-time favorites. The endless beta branch of the game on Steam just got a large update, including the addition of transforming werewolf woman Lucia Lunarossa as a playable character, plus an unlockable boss version of her. Players can also unlock the previously CPU-only characters of Army Soldier, Broken Krave, Dkrav’lest Daevka, and Haemophage, plus a new unlockable in Amy of the Night, who can transform and has altered movelists of Aylin (Amy) and Lejl.

The game also has a new, improved juggle system, and the ability to select past iterations of the characters from earlier versions of the game. On top of all this are further QoL adjustments. Remember, you have to opt in for the beta to receive these updates currently. Instructions are contained in this link.
